Below is a summary of some of the key policies and procedures that are important to our day to day operation in providing quality service to our children and our parents. More detailed information on all policies and procedures can be found in the Parent Handbook.
Children Served
Little Minds 1st Academy serves children from age 6 weeks to 5 years of age. We also offer a program for School Age children when they are on breaks during the school year as well as a Summer Camp Program.
Hours of Operation
Hours of Operation for Little Minds 1st Academy are 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday all year round except for the Holidays that we observe.
Holidays Observed
The holidays that we will observe at Little Minds 1st Academy are listed below:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (4th of July)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day & The Day After Thanksgiving
- Half Day on Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
- Half Day on New Year’s Eve
Tuition Payments
Tuition is due each Monday, prior to the childcare services being rendered. If tuition is not paid by Monday of the week services are rendered, the account will be assessed a 5.00 fee per day. If the child does not attend on the days agreed upon at the time of enrollment, the parent is still responsible to pay the full amount for that week. This will include vacations or any other time that the child is taken out for a period of time while enrolled at Little Minds 1st Academy. Holidays are also not exempt from the child’s regularly scheduled weekly tuition. The parent is paying for his/her child’s space at Little Minds 1st Academy, so in order to hold that space, tuition must be paid. Tuition is subject to change at the discretion of the Center Director. Parents will be notified in advance of any tuition changes.
Medication Policy & Procedure
We administer medications in compliance with Georgia Rule #591-1-20, which is included in this Operations Manual. Management may not administer medication to any child unless a parent has completed a Medication Authorization Form. Parents must indicate a start date and end date, a reason for the medication, and the dosage or medication cannot be administered.
Emergency Medical Procedure
If a child becomes ill, injured, or has an adverse reaction to prescribed medication while at the Center, the parent(s) or emergency contact person will be notified immediately.
If it is necessary to seek immediate medical attention for a child, a staff member will accompany the child, who will be transported to

A staff member will accompany the child to the emergency facility and will carry with them the child’s medical permission forms, as well as the health information file.
In the event of an occurrence of a communicable disease as outlined by the Department of Health, written notification will be posted on the classroom door within 24 hours or the next business day.
Severe Weather, Fire or Emergency Situations
If an emergency situation develops such as severe weather, fire, physical damage to the building, or any other situation that poses a threat, the safety of the children is our first concern.
Our center is equipped with a weather band radio, a fire alarm sprinkler system and fire extinguishers. Fire and severe weather drills are conducted according to state and county regulations or every 30 days.
If there is an emergency situation and it becomes necessary to close the Center, parents will be notified to make arrangements for early pickup.
If there is inclement weather and it is determined that the Center will not open, parents will be instructed by the Center as to TV or radio stations providing closing information.
If an emergency situation develops and it is determined that the building or premises are unsafe, your child(ren) will be transported to a safe location.
Parents will be notified of the situation and you will be required to pick up your child(ren) as soon as possible.
Discipline
Little Minds 1st Academy utilizes Child Guidance and Discipline technique in encouraging the appropriate behavior of our children.
Every teacher who cares for children has a responsibility to guide, correct and socialize children toward appropriate behaviors. These adult actions often are called Child Guidance and Discipline. Positive guidance and discipline are crucial because they promote children’s self-control, teach children responsibility and help children make thoughtful choices. The more effective Teachers are at encouraging appropriate child behavior, the less time and effort adults will spend correcting children’s misbehavior.
